History of Farm

A bit of history

The production of Maple Syrup on the Emerson Family Farm dates back to over a century ago when Marcus Emerson had a small sugar shack in the woods behind the farmhouse. Although, we do not know exactly how many trees he tapped each year, we do know that he enjoyed the process and he handed this passion for maple production down to his grandson Charlie.

Over the years, a lot has changed in maple production but the fundamentals remain the same. Charlie Emerson now taps about 2,500 Maples and now produces roughly 650 gallons of Maple Syrup each year using the same basic organic process and natural wood heat.

Over the past 40 years Charlie & his wife Linda have been slowly building the maple business. Up until about 5 years ago the syrup was made in "The Sugar Shack,"(picture above) however after many years of use it had to be taken down. Emerson's Maple Syrup is now made in the "new" sugar shack located in the evaporator room in our barn.

Across from the evaporator room is the Sugar Kitchen where all the maple products are located. If you are in the neighborhood please stop by!
