Maple Poem and Drawing

A Fantastic Family Chore

Looking down at the broken down tree
Seeing all the silent snow
In your fat as a marshmallow snow clothes
Hearing banging, clanging sounds

The spile driller drilling
The hammer pounding
With the cold as ice buckets
In your cold, creased hands

Laughing, chatting, gazing, working
Snow underfoot crunching
While you hang sap buckets
A fantastic family chore

After all of our hard work
Anxiously awaiting what is to come
Hearing the sap drip-dripping
Feeling your frozen fingertips

The lovely, lasting, lingering taste
Of marvelous, majestic maple syrup,
Hanging around your mouth
Sighing a sorry sigh because you are done
